Orange Stony Coral [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) elegans]
Description
Divers often spot this coral as small, bright orange cups or lumps attached to rock or hard substrate. Up close, the surface can look textured and porous, and the coral’s polyps may extend slightly, giving it a lively, “alive” look even in dim water.
