Opisthoteuthis hardyi [Opisthoteuthis hardyi]
Description
Hardy’s deep-sea squid is adapted for life in low light, so divers are most likely to notice it when a beam of light catches its silhouette. It tends to move slowly and deliberately, often appearing to hover as it navigates the water. For many divers, the experience is less about “interaction” and more about spotting a rare, elusive deep-sea traveler.
