Mushroom Coral [Fungia puishani]

Mushroom Coral
Description

Divers often spot this solitary coral as a fleshy, mushroom-like disc resting on the seafloor. At the right moment, its surface can look subtly textured and alive, with tentacle-like polyps that may extend when conditions are calm. It’s a great example of how “coral” can look more like a soft, living plate than a branching reef builder.
