Mediterranean Saddle Oyster [Anomia ephippium var. mediterranea]
Description
Found in the Mediterranean Sea, this species has a thin, round shell that can grow up to 8 cm in diameter. The color of the shell exterior is typically yellowish-brown often encrusted with small organisms. It attaches itself to hard substrates using byssal threads and feeds by filtering plankton from the water.
