Mauve Stinger [Pelagia noctiluca]

Mauve Stinger
Description

Divers may spot this jellyfish as a soft, mauve “glow” drifting through the water column, often appearing like a floating lantern in dim conditions. Its bell can look translucent and slightly fringed, and it tends to move with gentle, pulsing drifts rather than fast swimming. Because it can sting, divers usually admire it from a respectful distance.
