Lesser Knob Coral [Cyphastrea chalcidicum]
Description
Divers often spot this coral as small, rounded “knobs” that form tight, bumpy patches on reef rock. Up close, the surface can look subtly textured, and the coral’s structure helps create tiny hiding spots for small reef fish and invertebrates. It’s a great species to examine slowly—its growth form gives the reef a lived-in, three-dimensional feel.
