Laysan cup coral [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) laysanensis]
Description
Divers may spot this small cup-shaped coral tucked into crevices or attached to rocky substrate. It often looks like a neat, shallow “cup” with a textured surface, and it can be surprisingly cryptic until you get close. In clear water, it can appear as a delicate patchwork of tiny colonies along the reef.
