Intermediate Valley Coral [Oulophyllia bennettae]
Description
Oulophyllia bennettae is a valley coral that often grows in sheltered reef areas, where it can form low, brain-like or mound-shaped structures. Divers may see a maze of small valleys and ridges on its surface, creating a “pitted” look from certain angles. It’s usually most noticeable when you slow down and scan the contours of the reef.
