Gulf Stream Brotula [Paresperella helenae]
Description
The Gulf Stream Brotula, Paresperella helenae, is a species of viviparous brotula found in the western Atlantic Ocean from Massachusetts, USA to the Bahamas and the northern Gulf of Mexico. They inhabit subtropical regions and prefer a sandy or muddy bottom environment at depths of 100 to 600 meters. Distinguished by a slender, elongate body and a short, blunt snout, the Gulf Stream Brotula typically grows to a length of 13 centimeters.
