Favites valenciennesii [Favites valenciennesii]

Description

Favites valenciennesii is a massive, boulder-forming coral that can look like a rounded, knobby structure rising from the reef. Divers often see it as a sturdy “reef building block,” with a surface made of many small, repeating openings that catch light and shadow. Depending on the site, it may appear in muted browns, greens, or grays, blending naturally with the surrounding reef.
