Favites irregularis [Favites irregularis]
Description
As the name suggests, this species can grow in more irregular, uneven star-coral shapes, with lobes that vary from colony to colony. Divers may notice its thick, sturdy appearance and the way it creates shaded pockets that attract small reef organisms. It’s a satisfying coral to hunt for on reefs because its form can look “unique” compared to more uniform star corals.
