Etmopterus villosus [Etmopterus villosus]
Description
This deep-sea lanternshark can be seen as a modest-sized shark moving steadily through darker water, sometimes hovering briefly before continuing on. Divers may notice a slightly textured or “fuzzy” look to the body in close-up lighting, giving it a distinctive appearance compared with smoother-looking sharks. Like other lanternsharks, it’s most often observed as a quiet, shadowy presence rather than an active, surface-oriented animal.
