Crusty Pencil Coral [Madracis pharensis]
Description
Crusty Pencil Coral can appear as low, crust-like bases with slender, pencil-shaped growths rising from them. Divers may see a rougher, more “crusty” texture at the base, with the taller tips standing out like tiny reeds. It’s a great coral to hunt for during reef dives because its mixed textures make it stand out in close-up views.
