Catostylus townsendi [Catostylus townsendi]
Description
This species is commonly encountered as a slow-moving, umbrella-shaped jellyfish that can drift close to the surface or along sheltered coastlines. Underwater, its bell contractions create a subtle, rhythmic motion, and its long tentacle-like structures may trail behind as it glides. Divers often notice it as a soft, translucent silhouette against the water’s blue or sandy bottom.
