Cape cup coral [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) capensis]
Description
Cape cup coral is commonly found on hard bottoms where it creates a tidy pattern of shallow cups. Divers often encounter it in sheltered areas, where the cups’ rims and the subtle movement of the polyps give the colony a living, watchful appearance.
