Blackback Butterflyfish [Chaetodon melannotus]
Description
The Blackback Butterflyfish, as its name suggests, has a black back and dorsal fin, contrasted with a white ventral side. A black band runs through the eye. They are found in the Indo-Pacific region, from East Africa to Samoa, and north to southern Japan. They are often found in pairs in coral-rich areas of clear lagoon and seaward reefs. They feed on coral polyps, benthic invertebrates, and filamentous algae.
