Description
The Banded Soapfish, a species in the Spinycheek sleepers genus, inhabits the western Atlantic Ocean, primarily in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. This species can reach a length of 20 cm. It is characterized by a series of dark bands across its body. It also produces a toxic mucus as a defense mechanism.
