Balanophyllia gigas [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) gigas]
Description
As the name suggests, Balanophyllia gigas can be a larger, more noticeable member of its group, often forming a substantial, cemented mass on hard bottoms. Divers may see a broad, textured surface with openings where polyps extend—especially when currents bring in plankton.
