Balanophyllia diffusa [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) diffusa]
Description
Balanophyllia diffusa typically forms spreading patches that cling firmly to the seafloor, creating a subtle “carpet” effect on suitable rock. Underwater, divers may notice its many small mouths and the way the colony blends into crevices and uneven surfaces.
