Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) serrata [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) serrata]
Description
This coral typically forms compact growths that can appear as small, irregular mounds on hard substrate. Underwater, divers may notice a more “toothed” or jagged look to parts of its surface, giving it a distinctive silhouette compared with smoother encrusting corals. It’s a great find for macro-focused dives, especially when you pause to look closely at the edges.
