Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) scabrosa [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) scabrosa]

Description

Divers may spot this species as a low, encrusting or mound-like coral that clings firmly to rock. Its surface can look textured and slightly rough, often blending into the reef backdrop while still catching the light in small patches. In many areas it’s most noticeable in shaded crevices or on vertical faces where it’s protected from strong surge.
