Atlantic Caryophyllia [Caryophyllia (Caryophyllia) atlantica]
Description
Divers may spot this deep-water stony coral as a small, rounded mound or patchwork of tightly packed polyps. In good light, the surface can look subtly textured, with individual mouths giving it a “speckled” appearance as it grows slowly over hard substrate.
