Aplidium arenatum [Aplidium arenatum]
Description
Divers may encounter this tunicate as a colony that looks like a thin, textured coating on rocks, sometimes with a slightly grainy or sandy appearance. Its feeding openings are usually visible as tiny points across the colony, especially when the light catches them. It’s a great example of how reefs are built not only by corals, but also by countless filter-feeding invertebrates.
