Alcyonium spongiosum [Alcyonium spongiosum]
Description
Alcyonium spongiosum typically appears as a soft, lobed colony with a spongy or knobbly surface. Underwater, divers may see it in sheltered areas where it can spread across rock, giving the seafloor a mottled, fleshy look. Its polyps are often less obvious than on many hard corals, but the colony’s overall texture and movement in current make it stand out.
