Eastern Thorny Oyster [Spondylus varius]
Description
This species is found in the Western Pacific, from Japan to Australia. It has a colourful and highly variable shell pattern, often featuring a mix of purple, red, orange and white. Like other thorny oysters, it has a shell covered in spines and lives attached to hard surfaces in shallow waters.
