African Manatee [Trichechus senegalensis]
Description
The African manatee is a soft, powerful swimmer that can appear near shorelines and river mouths where vegetation is abundant. Divers might see it cruising just under the surface, using its broad, paddle-like flippers to steer while it feeds. Encounters are often quiet and fleeting, but the sight of such a large animal moving gracefully through murky water is unforgettable.
