Blackbelly Dogfish [Etmopterus hillianus]
Description
As its name suggests, the blackbelly lanternshark/dogfish typically shows a darker underside that helps it blend in with the dim light of the deep. With a diver’s light, its bioluminescent patches can become visible, creating a ghostly effect as it hovers or slowly cruises.
