Aplidium benhami [Aplidium benhami]

Description

Divers may spot this colonial tunicate as a patch or mat of small, closely packed zooids attached to rocks, wrecks, or other hard substrates. In good light it can look like a textured, encrusting film, often with tiny openings where water is drawn in and expelled. It’s a subtle but fascinating “living carpet” that adds color and texture to the seafloor.
