Palythoa eremita [Palythoa eremita]

Description

Palythoa eremita is a colonial soft coral that grows in dense, encrusting patches. Divers will recognize it by its compact, bumpy surface and the many tiny openings that can look like a field of miniature dots. With a bit of patience, you may catch the polyps slightly opening when currents increase.
