Palythoa dysancrita [Palythoa dysancrita]

Description

This Palythoa forms spreading colonies that cling tightly to hard substrates. Underwater, it typically appears as a textured mat with many small mouths, giving the surface a speckled, “peppered” look. Divers may see the polyps gently extend and retract as water flow brings food particles.
