Palythoa canalifera [Palythoa canalifera]
Description
Divers often spot this species as a low, encrusting patch on rocks, ledges, or reef rubble. Under good light, the surface can look textured and slightly channel-like, with many tiny openings that hint at the living polyps beneath. It’s a great example of how “coral” can appear as a living carpet rather than a branching structure.
