Palythoa calycina [Palythoa calycina]

Description

Palythoa calycina typically appears as an encrusting colony with a dense covering of small polyps on rocks or reef structures. From a diver’s perspective, it’s a great “micro-habitat” to watch—look closely and you’ll often see the polyps’ openings and gentle rhythmic movement as they feed.
