Palythoa brasiliensis [Palythoa brasiliensis]

Description

On tropical reefs, divers may encounter this Palythoa as a thick, encrusting patch that can blend into the rock until you get close. The colony’s surface is made up of many tiny polyps, giving it a grainy or velvety texture. In areas with steady flow, it can look especially active as the polyps respond to the water movement.
