Palythoa aspera [Palythoa aspera]
Description
As its name suggests, Palythoa aspera often appears rough and irregular, forming thick, encrusting growths on hard surfaces. Divers can see a gritty texture with many tiny openings that give the colony a “pitted” or “bumpy” appearance. It’s a common sight for divers who like to examine the reef’s smaller residents, especially in areas with steady water flow.
