Hedgehog Coral [Echinopora mammiformis]
Description
Mammiformis colonies often look like rounded, lumpy mounds with a bristly surface—less like flat plates and more like bumpy “bumps” clustered together. Divers may find it on reef slopes or rocky areas where it benefits from steady water flow. Up close, the colony’s uneven contours and spiny texture give it a distinctive, tactile look from a distance.
