Diomedea Caryophyllia [Caryophyllia (Caryophyllia) diomedeae]
Description
Divers may spot this small stony coral as a low, lumpy mound or patchwork of pale to cream-colored polyps. When light hits the surface, the individual coral heads can look like tiny, clustered “cups” that gently contrast with the surrounding rock or sand. It’s often most noticeable in sheltered areas where it can quietly grow undisturbed.
