Balanophyllia scabra [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) scabra]
Description
This species often appears as a rough-textured growth with many small polyps attached to hard surfaces. Divers may notice it more by its texture and pattern than by size, with polyps extending to capture food from passing water. It’s a classic “look closer” coral that rewards slow, careful finning.
