Balanophyllia profundicella [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) profundicella]
Description
As its name suggests, divers may encounter this coral in deeper or more sheltered habitats where conditions are calmer. The polyps often appear as small, textured bumps or delicate points that can extend to feed when currents bring food. In low light, it can look understated but becomes fascinating up close.
