Baird’s cup coral [Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) bairdiana]
Description
Divers often spot this coral as a small, cup-like colony attached to rock or hard substrate. In clear water it can look like a series of neat, low “cups,” with tiny tentacle-like openings that may subtly pulse when the coral is feeding.
