Smooth Burrowing Anemone [Actinothoe modesta]
Description
Divers may spot this anemone tucked into sandy or silty bottoms, where it looks like a smooth, low-profile opening in the substrate. When you get close, it can subtly extend and retract, giving the impression of a gentle “breathing” burrow. Its tentacles are often less showy than many reef anemones, but the movement is a satisfying reward for careful observation.
