California Burrowing Anemone [Edwardsia californica]
Description
Divers often spot this burrowing anemone as a small, sand- or gravel-topped “puff” that marks where it lives in the substrate. When it’s calm, it looks like a compact opening; when it feeds, its tentacles extend to capture passing plankton.
