Alcyonium spitzbergense [Alcyonium spitzbergense]

Description

This soft coral forms low, cushion-like growths that can look like a velvety patch on rocky bottoms. Divers often notice it for its muted, fleshy texture and how it subtly blends into the surrounding substrate, especially in colder-water habitats. When disturbed by current or a passing diver, the colony can gently sway, revealing its soft, flexible body.
