Alcyonium papillosum [Alcyonium papillosum]
Description
Divers may recognize Alcyonium papillosum by its bumpy, “papillated” look—like small bumps or knobs covering a soft, fleshy body. Colonies often grow in sheltered areas where they can remain stable while still benefiting from passing food-rich water. When you hover nearby, the colony’s texture and tiny openings can be more apparent, making it a great subject for slow, careful observation.
