Alcyonium cydonium [Alcyonium cydonium]
Description
Alcyonium cydonium is commonly encountered as a soft, rounded or lobed colony that can look like a thick, velvety growth on rock. Divers may notice it gently flexing with the current, which helps it capture food particles drifting by. With careful observation, the colony’s many small polyps create a textured surface that becomes more apparent in good visibility.
