Stauroteuthis gilchristi [Stauroteuthis gilchristi]
Description
Divers are unlikely to encounter this deep-water relative of the “stalked” octopus, but when it does appear, it’s a striking sight. Look for a small, delicate squid-like silhouette with a distinctive, star-shaped arrangement of arms and a calm, drifting posture in the water column.
