Sternaspis [Sternaspis]

Description
Sternaspis is a genus of marine worms belonging to the family Sternaspidae. These benthic invertebrates are characterized by their unique body structure, which includes a tough, shield-like structure on their posterior end, known as a scutellum. This scutellum is often used to burrow into soft sediment on the ocean floor, where they live a relatively sedentary lifestyle. Sternaspis species are deposit feeders, consuming organic particles they find within the sediment. They are found in a variety of marine environments, from shallow waters to the deep sea, across the world's oceans.
