Spiny Tritons [Lautoconus]
Description
Lautoconus, commonly referred to as spiny tritons, is a genus of sea snails that are noted for their spiny shells. These spines can be quite pronounced, serving as both protection against predators and a mechanism for anchoring the snails into sandy or muddy substrates. Lautoconus species are found in tropical and subtropical waters, where they feed on a diet of benthic invertebrates.
