Laevipilina [Laevipilina]

Description
Laevipilina is a genus of monoplacophoran mollusks that reside in the deep sea. Members of this genus are characterized by their single, cap-like shell, which covers the top of their body. Unlike many other mollusks, Laevipilina species have a simple body plan that harks back to the early evolutionary stages of mollusks. They possess a series of gills and a radula, a type of tongue covered with teeth, used for feeding. Laevipilina species are known for their bilateral symmetry and a relatively simple nervous system, making them subjects of interest in the study of molluscan and marine invertebrate evolution.
