Grey Seals [Halichoerus]
Description
Halichoerus is a genus represented by the grey seal, found on both sides of the North Atlantic. Known for their horse-like profile, grey seals exhibit sexual dimorphism, with males being larger and darker than the females, which often have a silver-grey coat with dark patches. These seals are versatile feeders, preying on a wide variety of fish. They breed in large colonies on sandy or rocky beaches and ice floes, where their pups are born with a white lanugo coat.
