Blood Cockles [Anadara]
Description
Anadara is a genus of saltwater bivalve mollusks known as the blood cockles, named for the red hemoglobin liquid inside their bodies. These bivalves have robust, thick shells with a characteristic teardrop shape and radiating rib structures. They inhabit sandy and muddy bottoms in shallow to deep marine environments, where they filter-feed on plankton and detritus.
